Margaret Thatcher: DEAD

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Thatcher

Margaret Thatcher died today; whilst I won't mourn her passing neither will I celebrate her death.

She as the figurehead of the Conservative Party, decimated my generation, my community and my family / friends. But I am uncomfortable with the jubilation that has been expressed by many today, parties taking place, cakes being baked, champagne corks popping ...

To all I say enjoy your celebration, despite my utter dislike of Maggie and hatred of the values she cherished, I can't bring myself to cheer her death. Sorry

It has been suggested by some that one of her goals was to create a society without compassion & empathy? I'm unsure of that and even if it was the case then she lost and compassion has won. This has little to do with her and everything to do with me.

My feelings today were most accurately voiced by Julieanne Regan (All About Eve) ...

"Maggie Thatcher. Hated her politics, hated most of what she did and stood for, but she ended as a frail old woman with dementia. How the mighty fall, a lesson to us all. No dancing on her grave for me. I can't be angry at a dead woman. I am however angry at the current bunch of out of touch toffs that rule our lives. Better aim my spleen at them than a dead woman who probably spent her last year not even knowing what day it was."
